Palmer Johnson Power Systems (PJ) is thrilled to be recognized by Wisconsin State Journal's inaugural Top Workplaces rankings for 2019. The honor is awarded to companies based on anonymous employee feedback regarding workplace culture and is calculated using a third party research partner, Energage LLC.

“Winning this award is an honor and a true reflection of our employees,” said Ashley Matthys, Director of Human Resources at PJ. “We live our core value of caring about each other every day. This is not the effort of just one person or department, but it is all of us choosing as leaders, managers, and co-workers to actively promote an engaging, supportive, flexible and fun environment where people want to come to work. I can’t say enough about our team, they are the best in Madison!”

The anonymous employee engagement survey consisted of 24 questions, gathering responses regarding issues relating to workplace culture:

  • Alignment – where the company is headed, its values, cooperation
  • Connection – employees feel appreciated, their work is meaningful
  • Effectiveness – doing things efficiently and well, sharing different viewpoints, encouraging new ideas
  • My Manager – cares about concerns, helps employees develop
  • Engagement – motivation, retention and recruiting
  • Leadership – confidence in company leaders
  • The Basics – pay, benefits, flexibility, training, expectations

The Top Workplace award identifies and recognizes companies in the region that demonstrate supportive leadership, a strong work-life balance, a dynamic culture, a well-defined mission and other signature characteristics that help create an exceptional place to work.

“Top Workplaces is more than just recognition,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage. “Our research shows organization that earn the award attract better talent, experience lower turnover, and are better equipped to deliver bottom-line results. Their leaders prioritize and carefully create a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement.”

Outside of this employee engagement survey for Top Workplaces, PJ routinely sends out our own survey. “PJ uses an employee engagement survey to make sure leadership keeps a pulse on what’s working and what’s not. We dive in and change to get better. We will continue to listen to our people and communicate back with transparency,” says Ashley Matthys.

We are honored to share this award with these other outstanding companies in and around the Madison area: UW Credit Union, Kwik Trip Inc., Epic, AkitaBox, Aerotek, Heibing, M3, JP Cullen, and many more!
