Palmer Johnson Supports Cutting-Edge Research Vessel
Palmer Johnson Power Systems is proud to have supplied the Twin Disc MGX6599RV transmissions and Vulkan Couplings for Cal Poly Humboldt’s newest research vessel, the RV North Wind. Built by All American Marine (AAM) and designed by Teknicraft Design, this 78’ aluminum catamaran is a state-of-the-art platform for oceanographic research, marine conservation, and offshore wind energy studies.
With twin MAN EPA Tier 4 engines, advanced research labs, and cutting-edge marine technology, the RV North Wind is designed for extended offshore missions. The vessel features Teknicraft’s hydrofoil-assisted hull, enhancing efficiency and reducing environmental impact while providing a smoother ride. The MGX6599RV transmissions ensure smooth and efficient power transfer, while the Vulkan Couplings enhance reliability and reduce vibration, contributing to the vessel’s high performance and durability. These drivetrain components support the vessel’s ability to operate efficiently during extended research missions.
This vessel will support Cal Poly Humboldt’s commitment to hands-on learning and marine research, providing students and faculty with a world-class platform for scientific discovery. We are honored to contribute to this significant project, reinforcing our commitment to powering innovation in the marine industry.
