PJ Named "Top Workplace" by Wisconsin State Journal Again
Palmer Johnson Power Systems (PJ) is thrilled to be recognized again by Wisconsin State Journal's Top Workplaces rankings for 2020. The honor is awarded to companies based on anonymous employee feedback regarding workplace culture and is calculated using a third party research partner, Energage LLC.
Workplace Culture Components
The anonymous employee engagement survey consisted of 24 questions, gathering responses regarding issues relating to workplace culture:
- Alignment – where the company is headed, its values, cooperation
- Connection – employees feel appreciated, their work is meaningful
- Effectiveness – doing things efficiently and well, sharing different viewpoints, encouraging new ideas
- My Manager – cares about concerns, helps employees develop
- Engagement – motivation, retention and recruiting
- Leadership – confidence in company leaders
- The Basics – pay, benefits, flexibility, training, expectations
“Recruitment and retention are a key focus for every organization today,” said Eric Rubino, CEO of Energage. “The employee engagement survey at the heart of the Top Workplaces program provides the foundation for unearthing unique culture differentiators to recruit and retain the right talent.”
The Tough Process
The process began in July, when the State Journal began news coverage and promotions to welcome people to nominate companies as Top Workplaces. Energage also reached out to area companies. Throughout the process, 760 employers in the region were invited to have their employees take the survey. Any organization was eligible to participate, provided it had at least 35 employees in the region. Employers could be public, private, nonprofit, or governmental. There is no cost to enter the Top Workplaces program.
For 2020, 63 employers agreed to take the survey. Combined, they employ 11,001 people in metro Madison. Of those employees who received questionnaires, 7,520 responded, either on paper or online. For this year’s winners list, 40 Madison-area employers were ranked based on their employee survey feedback.
Pulse Check
Outside of this employee engagement survey for Top Workplaces, PJ routinely sends out our own survey. “PJ uses an employee engagement survey to make sure leadership keeps a pulse on what’s working and what’s not. We dive in and change to get better. We will continue to listen to our people and communicate back with transparency,” says Ashley Matthys.
We are honored to share this award with these other outstanding companies in and around the Madison area: Summit Credit Union, Kwik Trip, Shine United LLC, Holtz Builders Inc., Wipfli LLC and many more!
